Keeping a journal

“You must stay drunk on writing so reality cannot destroy you.” ― Ray BradburyZen in the Art of Writing

This time of year, there will be heaps of posts talking about a new 'trick' to transform your life.

The truth is there are very few that will make a difference.

But one thing I can recommend is to start a journal. Nothing fancy. Nothing branded. Just a spiral-bound notebook will do.

The thing is, keeping a journal, and writing daily, will be the only way you'll keep in touch with what's really going on in your life. Oh sure, sometimes it will be a pain in the arse to keep up the routine, but if you're willing to commit, it will be as good as if not better than a daily dose of meditation.

Try it.

Try grabbing a piece of paper and pen (nothing fancy) and just write. It doesn't matter how bad it comes out, how much profanity or grunge there might be, just write. And do it again, and again until you start to see that all those angst-ridden days are nothing more than a shadow game that our ego-induced 'me' forever puts in (y)our way.

Note. I'm not saying that keeping a journal will solve everything but it might allow you to swim with the sharks without being eaten alive.
